Today’s Five Minute Friday writing prompt is “Motherhood Should Come With…” Five minutes, no editing… here goes!

I need a clone. I’ve needed one since I brought our first baby out of my body and discovered that babies eat every 2 hours sometimes, and I can’t just wake up and feed a baby every two hours for months on end.

I’ve needed one since our daughter needed to be hospitalized, and I had to pump breast milk and had to leave the floor she was on to go two floors away for half an hour.

I’ve needed a clone to get a shower when my daughter wouldn’t nap longer than 30 minutes (and often less than that).

I needed a clone to manage all the doctor’s and therapy appointments, equipment, and supplies she needed.

I needed a clone when we had more babies and suddenly I had more people’s needs to meet than I had hands.

I need a clone when one child is screaming for food, another is demanding help to find the missing flip-flop, and the third is trying to finish homework and can’t understand the reason why his answer is wrong even though he showed his work.

I need a clone when I’m so worn out from keeping up with kids and messes and house that I can’t keep my eyes and heart open for my husband (who needs a wife more than he needs his children’s mom some nights).

I need a clone to make me coffee in the morning. And in the afternoon. And decaf at night when i finally get to put my feet up.

I need a clone to remake the beds when the kids decide to make forts with the blankets after I just changed the sheets and worked up a sweat wrestling them onto the top bunk’s mattress and have to do it all over again.

But could a clone be as good as the real thing?
